Geely Geometry C

2026-09-21 00:30:03

Model Overview

The Geely Geometry C is the maiden all-electric SUV from Geely Auto's mid-to-high-end EV sub-brand, Geometry Auto, officially launched on 7 August 2020. Positioned as a "true long-range electric SUV", it represents the brand's second mass-production model following the Geometry A, serving as an official designated vehicle for the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou, as well as the debut platform for the Geometry+ open-source architecture. The model line-up comprises 5 variants across two NEDC range options—400 km and 550 km—with post-subsidy prices ranging from RM129,800 to RM182,800. The debut of the Geometry C filled the brand's product void in the all-electric SUV segment, tasked with the strategic mission of driving sales breakthroughs in the private retail market.

Design Language

The Geometry C carries over the brand's signature "Multi-Dimensional Flowing Lifebody" design philosophy. The front fascia features a closed-off grille paired with a wind-deflecting, downforce-optimised nose, complemented by "Photon Blade" LED headlamps housing 80 high-intensity LED diodes alongside pulsing charging indicator lights integrated into the light brows. In profile, the SUV sports a floating roofline and flush pop-out door handles that deploy automatically upon unlocking. Rounding off the rear is a full-width LED light bar spanning 1.2 metres, fitted with 216 individual LED diodes. Dimension-wise, it measures 4,432 mm in length, 1,833 mm in width, and 1,560 mm in height, with a 2,700 mm wheelbase and an aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.273 Cd, demonstrating commendable performance among family vehicles in its segment. The minimalist "Geek-inspired" cabin centres around a 12.3-inch floating touchscreen infotainment display, flanked by an E-touch capacitive control zone on the centre console, a rotary electronic gear selector, and a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, creating a well-balanced blend of high-tech ambience and refinement.

Powertrain Performance

Across the entire line-up, the Geometry C is powered by a Nidec-sourced 3-in-1 permanent magnet synchronous electric drive system (integrating the electric motor, power control unit, and reduction gearbox), delivering 150 kW (around 204 PS / 201 hp) and 310 Nm of peak torque, with a maximum motor speed of 15,000 rpm. The official 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in 6.9 seconds. Energy is stored in a CATL-supplied ternary lithium (NMC) battery pack—offering a 53 kWh capacity on the 400 km variant and a 70 kWh capacity on the 550 km variant—with a pack energy density of up to 183.23 Wh/kg (cell energy density of 253 Wh/kg), leading the industry benchmark in 2020. For charging, the 400 km version takes 0.5 hours to juice up from 30% to 80% via DC fast charging, while AC regular charging takes 8.5 hours. Furthermore, the battery features the ITCS 3.0 intelligent thermal management system, safeguarding consistent performance across an extreme temperature range of -30°C to 55°C.

Ride and Handling

Under the skin, the Geometry C features dedicated EV chassis tuning, utilising a MacPherson independent front suspension with an aluminium alloy lower control arm and steering knuckle—a rare setup in this segment—which effectively reduces unsprung mass and sharpens handling response. The front subframe has been upgraded to a full-perimeter cradle, enhancing structural rigidity and frontal crash safety over the H-shaped subframe found in the Geometry A. At the rear, it employs a torsion beam non-independent setup with a hot-stamped closed cross-section, where separated springs and dampers increase damper stroke to improve ride comfort. Overall suspension tuning leans towards comfort, providing effective road-bump absorption while maintaining adequate body control in corners, striking a well-judged balance between compliance and stability. The electric power steering setup is responsive and accurate, free from discernible dead centre vagueness.

Cabin and Equipment

The intelligent cockpit centres on a 12.3-inch floating infotainment touchscreen and a 5-inch digital instrument cluster, with range-topping trims adding a 7-inch projection Head-Up Display (HUD). The infotainment unit runs the proprietary GKUI EV smart ecosystem, offering voice command, an integrated dashcam, charging station navigation, and full-vehicle over-the-air (OTA) update support. The centre console houses a wireless charging pad, while the top-spec variant is treated to a premium BOSE sound system and 72-colour rhythmic ambient lighting. On the comfort front, higher trims boast heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver's seat. A panoramic glass roof significantly brightens the interior and enhances the airy cabin feel. Notably, the climate control panel on the Geometry C has reverted from touch controls to tactile physical buttons, allowing effortless operation on the move.

Safety and Driver Assistance

In terms of active safety and driver assistance, the Geometry C delivers Level 2+ (L2+) capabilities. Powered by an array of around 18 sensors—including millimetre-wave radars, ultrasonic sensors, and HD cameras—the system enables a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS): ACC with Stop & Go functions between 0 and 150 km/h to handle stop-and-go urban traffic automatically; Forward Collision Warning (FCW) operates alongside Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) to issue visual and audible alerts before actively stepping in with emergency braking if the driver fails to respond; Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) works in tandem with Lane Departure Warning (LDW) to keep the vehicle centred in its lane. Additional features include Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Speed Limit Information Function (SLIF), and fully automated parking assist capable of tackling various indoor and outdoor parking manoeuvres. On the passive safety front, the body structure incorporates hot-stamped steel (up to 1,500 MPa tensile strength) and high-strength steel (800 MPa tensile strength), using hot-formed members across the A-pillars, B-pillars, and roof side rails to build a robust safety cage, significantly bolstering overall rigidity.

Market Performance and Reception

Market performance for the Geometry C fell short of initial expectations. Following its 2020 debut, monthly deliveries consistently hovered at around 1,000 units; full-year 2020 sales capped at just 5,277 units, while Geometry's overall brand sales barely surpassed 10,000 units; by August 2023, monthly sales had dwindled to 525 units, marking an 86.25% year-on-year plunge. Several factors contributed to this subdued reception: cannibalisation and perceived similarities stemming from petrol-to-EV platform sharing with models like the Geely Emgrand GS; confining Level 2+ ADAS exclusively to the flagship variant, undermining the value proposition of lower and mid-tier trims; and limited brand recognition alongside an underdeveloped dealer network, which prevented its product strengths from converting into strong showroom sales. According to owner feedback, while customers widely commended its real-world 550 km range efficiency, chassis refinement, and sleek styling, complaints were frequently directed at the tight rear cabin space and sparse standard kit on lower trims. In summary, as Geometry's pioneering all-electric SUV, the Geometry C showcased distinct product merits—headlined by its proprietary Smart Energy Management (SEM) system, class-leading 550 km range, lightweight aluminium suspension components, and Level 2+ driver assists—yet shortcomings in brand positioning, product cadence, and pricing strategy ultimately prevented it from securing the market breakthrough the brand had envisioned in an increasingly cut-throat electric SUV segment.
